Experience 

David is a partner in the Restructuring, Bankruptcy and Insolvency group, based in the London office. He advises on all aspects of non-contentious insolvency and restructuring, including formal and informal insolvency options, enforcements and security, sales by and purchases from Administrators, Receivers and Liquidators and corporate simplifications and restructurings. He has extensive experience in the area of solvent group reorganisations (including members' voluntary liquidations, s110 reconstructions and share cancellations). David has been at the forefront of recent market developments in the restructuring of mortgage backed security portfolios, advising banks and other financial institutions on the restructuring of RMBS structures. David's clients include licensed insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, corporate creditors and debtors, directors and pension scheme trustees.

David joined Mayer Brown in 1992 and was made partner in 2003.

Notable Engagements 

  • Acted for Deutsche Bank in connection with the mortgage portfolio company Edeus.
  • Advised JP Morgan in connection with several mortgage portfolio entities.
  • Acted for the trustees of the Woolworths pension scheme in connection with the collapse of that group.
  • Advised EMI/Terra Firma in relation to a refinancing involving a whole business securitisation of EMI's publishing revenues, security in connection with acquisition finance and corporate restructuring.
  • Advised the administrators of Park London Limited, a failed Lloyd’s insurance broker on all aspects of the administration.
  • Advised insolvency practitioners in relation to the liquidation of a Mauritian investment company.
  • Advised a Japanese client in relation to the restoration and liquidation of various group entities.
  • Advised Maxingvest (formerly Tchibo) in relation to the liquidation of its UK online retailer DSDC.
  • Acted for the liquidators of Robin Symes Limited (antiquities dealership).
  • Advised Fleet Bank in relation to the appointment of an Administrative Receiver in connection with a tooling manufacturer.
  • Advised an automotive manufacturer in relation to various ROT and supplier insolvency issues.
  • Acted for the administrators of Atkins Nutritionals (United Kingdom) Limited on the restructuring of the European business of the Atkins Diet group of companies.
  • Acted for Administrators, Administrative Receivers and Liquidators on a number of business and asset sales and other issues in the IT, search and recruitment, manufacturing and telecoms sectors.
