Experience
Adrian Steel’s wide-ranging regulatory and dispute resolution practice has special focus on the transportation and energy industries. In administrative law matters, he represents corporations before federal and state administrative agencies in rulemaking and adjudicatory proceedings, including representation of major Class I rail carriers in proceedings before the Surface Transportation Board. He also helps corporate clients secure approval of merger, asset sales and other control transactions from foreign competition authorities.
In the area of dispute resolution, Adrian represents corporate clients in securities fraud, products liability, breach of contract, and other business litigation matters. He manages complex multistate litigation involving the coordination of pending cases and discovery. He has a particular emphasis on energy industry disputes, in which he has represented producers and pipelines in litigation involving take-or-pay breach of contract lawsuits and claims arising over seismic data licensing agreements.
A member of Mayer Brown’s Washington, DC office since 1981, Adrian serves as co-Chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee. Following law school graduation, he was Law Clerk to The Honorable William H. Webster, US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and from 1978 to 1981 was Special Assistant to Judge Webster when the Judge served as Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation.
