Community Service Activities
In addition to our pro bono legal work, Mayer Brown is involved in a broad range of community service projects, largely in the area of education. We devote both time and money to such programs as the Constitutional Rights Foundation (Los Angeles), Malmesbury Primary School (a reading, numeracy, and French program (London)), Cristo Rey Jesuit High School (Chicago), "How to Succeed in Law School" (a day-long workshop for incoming first-year Latino law students from the New York area), Everybody Wins Power Lunch Program, a lunchtime literacy and mentoring program (New York), Link Program (which matches low income students with mentors who provide a personal and financial commitment to high school students (Chicago)), Northside College Preparatory (Chicago), Providence-St. Mel School K-12 (Chicago), Stockton Public School (Chicago), and many others.

In April and July of 2007, lawyers and staff from the Houston office donated time and money to Habitat for Humanity. Mayer Brown participated with the Houston Bar Association in constructing several homes in low-income areas of Houston in a development that particularly benefits former New Orleans residents who have been displaced following Hurricane Katrina. Read >>

As part of its partnership with the Gage-Eckington Elementary School, the Washington office of Mayer Brown participated in the third annual District of Columbia Public Schools Beautification Day on August 25. The annual DCPS Beautification Day was established in 2005 as the official day for a citywide "spruce up" of all DC public schools and front grounds in preparation for school opening. Read >>

Law firm associates prepare first meals from End Hunger Network's new kitchen and storage facility
31 July 2006, Houston - Law students and attorneys from the Houston office of international law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw will prepare the first of nearly two million meals to be provided this year to Houston's hungry at End Hunger Network's Mary Barden Keegan Hunger Relief Center. Summer, 2005 - The London Borough of Tower Hamlets in the East End of London has one the highest population densities in inner London, and according to a Government study in 2004, is one of the most deprived areas in the UK. Over half of Tower Hamlets' population is from nonwhite ethnic groups, and about a third is of Bangladeshi origin. Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership is an independent charity established in 1991 to encourage the private sector to work with schools in Tower Hamlets. Their evaluations show that the use of business volunteers in schools has a noticeable impact on pupils' fluency, comprehension and confidence.
