Overview

Craig Holburd, senior associate, advises and acts for a wide range of clients in complex and high value litigation matters in a variety of commercial contexts. He also has experience advising international oil and gas companies in contractual disputes and in their engagement with regulators in respect of major development projects. 

Craig spent over a year on secondment to a leading international bank in London, working closely with its affiliates in Europe to facilitate an FCA directed assessment of the bank's Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions policies and procedures, systems and controls.

Experience

  • Acted for listed client eOne, part of the Hasbro toy conglomerate, to support an internal investigation into allegations of fraud arising out of currency trading, and the subsequent multi-million pound fraud claim in the High Court of England & Wales, which included allegations of bribery, dishonesty, deceit, conspiracy and corruption.
  • Defending a company in the High Court of England & Wales from claims brought by c.18,000 individual claimants based in Brazil alleging liability for pollution and environmental damage under Brazilian law. The claims were brought in the context of parallel proceedings in Brazil and raised complex issues on jurisdiction and whether the English courts are the appropriate forum in which to commence large collective litigation arising from events overseas.
  • Advising the liquidators of an engineering and construction company, which went into insolvent liquidation with debts totalling over US$2 billion, in litigation against former directors, officers, and shareholders in claims involving false accounting, fraud, breach of directors’ and other fiduciary duties, wrongful and fraudulent trading, unlawful distributions, knowing receipt and dishonest assistance, and unlawful means conspiracy.
