MAYER BROWN SECURES VICTORY FOR VOTER RIGHTS IN NORTH CAROLINA

Mayer Brown successfully supported the North Carolina National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and two voters in their legal efforts to prevent a last-minute voter purge proposed by the Republican National Committee and the North Carolina Republican Party from sidestepping federal review. This victory casts doubt on their claims that nearly a quarter of a million voters are ineligible to vote in the 2024 presidential election.

The court’s decision to block the voter purge is a crucial step in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. This legal victory sets a strong precedent against similar actions in the future and reinforces the importance of protecting voter rights.

Since the proposal was announced, Mayer Brown has been actively involved in providing critical legal support and advocacy to protect the fundamental right to vote. The firm’s role included extensive legal research, drafting of briefs, and representation in court proceedings.
