In Memoriam: Ty Fahner

Share

With a very heavy heart we mourn our friend, colleague, and former Chair, Ty Fahner. He was 81.

In addition to his storied career in private practice at Mayer Brown, Ty had a long history of public service as the director of the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement, the Illinois Attorney General, and as an Assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in addition to chairing the finance committee of the Illinois Republican party and, later, the prestigious Commercial Club’s Civic Committee.

Co-Chair of Mayer Brown from 1998 to 2001 and then Chair from 2001 to 2007, Ty led the firm through a time of incredible growth and change, including our combinations with North Carolina-based Blanchfield Cordle & Moore, P.A. in 1998, France-based Lambert & Lee, German-based Gaedertz Rechtsanwälte in 2001, and London-based Rowe & Maw in 2002. In recent years, Ty continued to be involved in the Chicago community through his considerable civic and charitable work and, most recently, served as a key advisor to our former partner, Lori Lightfoot, during her tenure as Mayor of the City of Chicago.

Ty’s contributions – to the state of Illinois and to this Firm – are many. Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Fahner family, and the many people that called Ty partner and friend.
