On 4 June 2024, Mayer Brown will host an in-person event in collaboration with the Transparency International Professional Supporters (TIPS) Network and the University of Sussex’s Centre of the Study of Corruption marking 25 Years of the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.  The event will feature a keynote address from Chris Basiurski, Acting Chair of the OECD Working Group on Bribery, followed by an expert panel discussion.

About the event

This year, the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions (the “OECD Convention”) celebrates its 25th anniversary. Widely regarded as one of the most effective global anti-corruption instruments, the OECD Convention has nevertheless a patchy record of enforcement – dominated by the FCPA in the United States.

How did the OECD Convention come into being, and what difference has it made to business or to corruption among public officials? What is the future of the OECD Convention in a world in which trade is less dominated by OECD member states and the United States?

This evening features a keynote address from the current acting Chair of the influential OECD Working Group on Bribery and a discussion of the OECD Convention’s past, present and future with an expert panel.  Panellists include:

  • Liz David-Barrett, Director - Centre for the Study of Corruption, University of Sussex
  • Dominic Martin, Former UK Ambassador to the OECD
  • James Ford, Senior Associate - Mayer Brown
  • Lloydette Bai-Marrow, Chair - Spotlight on Corruption
Former Principal Investigative Lawyer, Serious Fraud Office

This session will be recorded, and made available after the event.
