Mexico’s Energy Regulatory Commission Resumes Legal Terms Suspended due to COVID-19 Pandemic
On August 17, 2020, the Energy Regulatory Commission (“CRE,” Comisión Reguladora de Energía) published in the Federal Official Gazette a resolution resuming all legal terms that were suspended as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 spread (the “Resolution”).
Taking into account that Mexico City’s government announced a decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases and the Ministry of Public Service issued the applicable criteria for the Federal Public Administration to transition to the resumption of activities, the CRE considered it appropriate to lift, as of August 17, 2020 (i.e., the Resolution’s publication date), the suspension of all legal terms and deadlines.
During the suspension, which has been in place since March 24, 2020, CRE employees remained on duty and carried out various procedures. However, the Resolution provides certainty on the resumption of activities.
