About
Our Houston office was opened in 1982 to serve the worldwide needs of oil and gas clients. Through success and growth, the office now offers clients the full range of the firm’s legal services, including real estate, finance, corporate and securities, litigation, arbitration, intellectual property, tax and tax controversy and bankruptcy.
Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States and is the most populous city in Texas. Our office reflects the vibrant, exciting spirit of the community and its residents. Lawyers are attracted by the office’s collegial atmosphere, entrepreneurial spirit, business opportunities, and commitment to pro bono work and community service; clients appreciate our mid-size office approach and lean staffing, plus our large-firm benefits such as stability, depth of resources, and global reach.
The Houston office is committed to pro bono work and community service and is proud to have won the firm’s first annual Pro Bono Office of the Year award. Examples of our pro bono work include arguing a case before the US Supreme Court, working on asylum and immigration cases, spearheading the creation of the Mayer Brown Fellowship with Texas Appleseed to provide legal assistance to the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and a six-year effort on behalf of a death row prisoner that resulted in vacating of the death sentence and a Fifth Circuit ruling that will benefit other death row inmates. In addition, lawyers and staff from our office regularly volunteer time and money to construct homes with Houston’s Habitat for Humanity.
