Tauil & Chequer Advogados announces the arrival of Antônio Augusto Brandão de Aras as a partner in the Litigation practice

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown has announced the arrival of Antônio Augusto Brandão de Aras, former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Brazil, to strengthen the Firm's practice in Brasilia. Aras will be a partner in the Litigation practice.

With extensive experience in Applied Social Sciences and Constitutional Law, Aras will handle the most complex cases represented by the firm and provide support on matters led by other practice areas of the firm, including tax, compliance, corporate, and environmental law. Aras will work alongside Luís Adams, former Attorney General of Brazil and partner in the Litigation, Arbitration, and Compliance practices at Tauil & Chequer Advogados.

According to Victor Galante, Managing Partner at Tauil & Chequer Advogados, Aras's appointment enhances the firm's capability to engage in projects that demand not only technical proficiency, but also a deep understanding of the Brazilian legal landscape.

Legal Career

Antônio Augusto Brandão de Aras is a Brazilian jurist and professor at the University of Brasilia Law School. He was the Attorney General of Brazil from 2019 to 2023. He brings a wealth of experience from a number of high-profile positions in the Federal Prosecutor's Office and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). His academic background includes a doctorate in State Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP) and a master's degree in Economic Law from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).

His career includes significant representations as Deputy Attorney General of the Republic at the STJ, member of the Superior Council of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, full member of the 3rd Chamber of Coordination and Review in matters of Economic and Consumer Law, and representative of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office at the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). He has also worked at the Bahia School of Magistrates (EMAB), the Chamber of Deputies, the Bahia State Court of Auditors (TCE), the Regional Electoral Court (TRE), and the University of Brasília (UnB).

In addition to his professional duties, Aras has a solid academic career, teaching Commercial and Electoral Law at the University of Brasília and at the Higher School of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office. His academic output includes full papers published in conference proceedings and books published or organized, enhancing his thought leadership and recognition in the legal world.
