Overview

Jean-Maxime advises clients across all industries with the upstream assessment of their merger projects and with any necessary filing to the relevant merger control and foreign investment authorities. He regularly handles technically challenging cases before the European and the French Competition Authority, in particular the structuring and notification of strategic joint ventures or partnerships, as well as transactions concerning local markets. He has significant experience in coordinating and managing multi-jurisdictional merger control and foreign direct investment (“FDI”) filings with Mayer Brown’s global network of offices and partner firms, and assists clients with all reporting and filing requirements under the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation ("FSR").

Experience

Assisted:

  • Intermarché in two successive European Commission dawn raids and subsequent investigation and appeals. Obtaining full annulment of dawn raids ordered by the European Commission for lack of sufficient grounds, leading to the annulment of seven years of investigation (French Supermarkets Case). 
  • La Française des Jeux with the merger control aspects of several acquisitions, including the notification to the French Competition Authority of its acquisition of ZETurf, which was cleared subject to remedies.
  • Mediawan in several acquisitions, including the merger control notification of its acquisition of the media branch of the Lagardère Group.
