Clients turn to Maria Carolina for her extensive experience and technical accuracy in Value-Added Tax (VAT) related matters, involving the interpretation and harmonization of tax legislation pursuant to client’s particularities, the granting of special regimes and tax incentives, as well as the structuring tax efficient transactions. She also has relevant practice in administrative litigations, including representing clients before courts and tax authorities, in addition to developing technical and strategic defenses.

Experience

  • Achieved an unprecedented outcome in a VAT litigation for a client of the entertainment sector, by reducing 90-percent of the original amount assessed (R$ 500 million);
  • Advised the restructuring of one of the widest companies of the food segment worldwide, involving an in-depth analysis of various VAT impacts and assessing the potential risks;
  • Recently assisted a number of clients on taxation of energy transactions, including the interpretation of the VAT legislation enacted by the States to regulate the distributed generation (GD) model, evaluation of potential tax incentives, as well as structuring business models.
