President Biden Issues Executive Order Empowering DOJ to Regulate the Export of Sensitive Personal Data

The EO, “Preventing Access to Americans’ Bulk Sensitive Personal Data and United States Government-Related Data by Countries of Concern,” addresses longstanding concerns from the Executive Branch that certain foreign governments are amassing sensitive genomic, biometric, health, geolocation, financial, and other personal data and using it to engage in activities that threaten national security, such as espionage (including through computer hacking), blackmail, transnational repression, and disinformation campaigns.

US Customs and Border Protection and Select Committee on the CCP Address De Minimis Imports from China

The US de minimis import rule is an exemption that allows articles valued at no more than $800 to enter the US free of duty and of any tax imposed on or by reason of importation.

Nine House Democrats Urge Biden Administration to Take Additional Steps to Counter Threat Posed by China’s Automotive Exports

On April 9, 2024, nine House Democrats wrote US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, urging “additional action of the imminent danger posed by the expansion of Chinese automotive exports.”
