The CSRD and its upcoming implementation in Germany - A practical overview

According to the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive will require around 13,200 companies to provide comprehensive reporting on sustainability aspects.

On 24 July 2024, the German Federal Government approved a draft boll for the implementation of the so-called Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) into German law. The new law must still pass the German Bundestag and the German Bundesrat before it can enter into force. This only expected to occur only later this year, although the deadline for the EU Member States to implement the CSRD already expire on 6 July 2024. In terms of content, the regulations contained the government draft largely represent a 1:1 implementation of the EU Directive.
