Mayer Brown bolsters Corporate & Securities practice in Tokyo with hire of leading M&A partner Eiji Kobayashi
Mayer Brown announced today that Eiji Kobayashi has joined its Corporate & Securities practice. With more than 20 years’ experience representing Japan’s leading industrial conglomerates on their most complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions, Eiji previously headed the Corporate practice at Norton Rose Fulbright and was a partner at Paul Hastings in Tokyo.
"Eiji’s experience advising on outbound M&A transactions from Japan into the United States, Europe and Latin America perfectly aligns with our global strategic growth plan,” said Kevin Sheridan, leader of the global Corporate & Securities practice at Mayer Brown. “His deep knowledge across key sectors, particularly in technology and life sciences, is supplemented by his unique regulatory and investigations experience arising from high-profile transactions in regulated sectors. This is a skill set which is increasingly sought after by Japanese clients, and neatly complements our Corporate & Securities practice in Tokyo,” he added.
"Mayer Brown is renowned for its impressive Japanese client base and the strength of those relationships globally, particularly in the United States where the firm has invested heavily in markets strategically critical to Japanese investors, such as in the state of Texas,” said Eiji. “For any global law firm to effectively support Japanese clients globally, it is essential to have a strong team on the ground in Japan. Mayer Brown has long been recognized as having one of the leading practices in Tokyo,” he added.
"We are delighted to welcome Eiji to our team in Tokyo. The synergies arising from his transactional, regulatory and investigations experience, sector knowledge and understanding of key outbound global markets, strongly appeals to our Japanese client base, ” said Rupert Burrows, managing partner of Mayer Brown's Tokyo office.
