Michael Kim advises and represents project sponsors, developers, governments, export credit agencies, multilateral agencies and commercial lenders on the project development and financing of power, oil & gas and infrastructure projects. 

He advises on wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal and thermal power projects, oil & gas and petrochemical facilities and major infrastructure projects including subsea transmission cables, water treatment facilities, railroads, telecom towers and stadiums.

Michael has extensive experience in advising clients on the structuring, drafting and negotiation of a broad range of project and finance documents including power purchase agreements and concession agreements and the full suite of finance documents for limited and non-recourse project financings.

Experiencia

Power
  • Advised KEPCO, EDF and Kyushu International on the sponsor consortium’s successful bid and subsequent financial closing of a US$3.8 billion subsea power transmission project (‘Project Lightning’) procured by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and financed by JBIC and KEXIM to connect ADNOC’s offshore oil and gas production facilities to Abu Dhabi’s onshore electricity grid. This deal was awarded Power (Transmission) Deal of the Year at the MENA IJGlobal Awards 2022.
  • Advised Korea Water Resources Corporation and Hyundai Engineering as sponsors on the development and concessional financing of the Tina River Hydropower Development Project in the Solomon Islands, financed by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Green Climate Fund, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and KEXIM-EDCF. This deal was awarded Hydropower Deal of the Year at the Asia-Pacific IJGlobal Awards 2019.
  • Advised PT PLN, the Indonesian state-owned electricity utility, on a power purchase agreement for a 70MW onshore wind power project with battery energy storage system. This is PLN’s first PPA for a renewable power project with a battery energy storage system.
  • Advised PT PLN, the Indonesian state-owned electricity utility, on a power purchase agreement for a 50MW solar power project being developed by international sponsors for Nusantara, Indonesia’s new capital.
