Doing business in Europe-an increasing sustainability regulatory burden
We explore the emerging “ESG” regulatory landscape in Europe and provide tips for compliance. Over the years, Japanese companies have been very active in Europe, both by virtue of having European subsidies or simply by “doing business” within Europe. We look at the recent regulatory changes many Japanese business are faced with, including complying with requirements in respect of sustainability disclosures, climate transition plans, mandatory environmental, human rights due diligence, “greenwashing” regulation and associated claims and regulatory action. - 3:05 p.m. - 3:35 p.m.
Building Safety-setting the world alight?
We examine recent fires in high-rise buildings around the world and explore whether this is indicative of a building safety crisis on a global-scale. We will look at the lessons which can be learned from the Grenfell Tower Fire in the UK and the specific findings of the Inquiry in its recent report. Specifically, the report reveals a number of significant failings in the Construction Industry ranging from incompetence to dishonesty. We will consider the necessary lessons to be learned and changes that need to be made by the industry in order to avoid further tragedies internationally. - 3:35 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Winds of Change-Lessons learned
Mayer Brown has extensive experience of advising parties in the offshore wind industry in Europe, and have learned a number of lessons from the projects we have been involved with. We will share some of these lessons with you, which we hope will be useful as the offshore wind industry continues to develop in Japan and the wider region. We will look in particular at interface and technology risks, as well as some common contractual issues that tend to arise. - 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
