Mayer Brown wins “Team of the Year: Structured Finance and Securitization” and advises on two winning deals in IFLR Americas Awards 2020
Mayer Brown announced that it has been named “Team of the Year” in the Structured Finance and Securitization category in the 2020 IFLR Americas Awards. Mayer Brown and Tauil & Chequer (T&C) in association with Mayer Brown also advised on two winning transactions named “Deals of the Year.”
Team of the Year: Structured Finance and Securitization
Mayer Brown won “Team of the Year: Structured Finance and Securitization” for its role in major transactions, including advising Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a US government agency, as the lead investor in a $175 million collateralized loan obligation securitization by responsAbility Financial Inclusion Investments 2019 DAC, a designated activity company incorporated in Ireland, aimed at providing credit to women entrepreneurs in emerging markets. IFLR also highlighted the firm’s role advising Goldman Sachs on the warehouse financing of the small business loan portfolio originated in Mexico by Mercado Crédito through the MercadoLibre platform. According to IFLR, this deal sets the template for Latin American fintech.

Banco Guayaquil Securitization: Structured Finance and Securitization
Mayer Brown represented the investors in connection with a $175 million private placement of fixed rate notes secured by dollar-denominated Visa, MasterCard and American Express merchant voucher receivables sold by Banco Guayaquil S.A. According to IFLR, this deal forged a new path for Ecuadorean financial institutions to raise foreign financing.
Engie and CDPQ/TAG: M&A
T&C represented Le Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), GDF International and Engie Brasil Energia S.A. in the acquisition of a 90 percent shareholding stake in Transportadora Associada de Gás S.A. from Petrobras, with a final and binding offer of $8.6 billion. T&C played a prominent role in this groundbreaking transaction in a challenging regulatory environment by advising CDPQ and Engie in corporate, regulatory, tax, compliance, litigation, real estate, labor and antitrust aspects.
Mayer Brown and T&C were also shortlisted in nine “Deals of the Year” categories and two “Teams of the Year” categories.
