Mayer Brown launches mentoring program with The Children’s Village

As part of Mayer Brown’s racial and social justice initiative, Project Equity, the firm launched a new mentoring program with New York-based nonprofit The Children's Village (CV).

The six-week program matches a mentoring team of one Mayer Brown business services staff member and one lawyer together with a mentee who is receiving services through CV or one of its partnering organizations. The small mentoring team size aims to create strong and impactful mentoring relationships.

Community-oriented civic engagement, including supporting education-related programs, is engrained in our cultural DNA,” said Matthew Ingber, the managing partner of Mayer Brown’s New York office. “Through this new mentoring program, we hope to provide meaningful sharing opportunities for at-risk youth that will lead to important exchanges of ideas and result in lasting connections between the mentors and mentees.”

Mayer Brown’s Project Equity initiative was launched in 2020 to broaden the firm’s community engagement on issues of racial and social justice and promote racial equity in the United States. In collaboration with nonprofit partners, the firm is developing pro bono and community service opportunities focused on the following issue areas: voter rights; criminal justice and policing reform; access to housing and economic stability; education; and minority-owned small business assistance. Since its launch, the firm has developed more than 40 projects through Project Equity.

Mayer Brown has a longstanding partnership with CV, including providing pro bono and financial support to the organization.

Founded in 1851, The Children’s Village’s mission is to work in partnership with families to help society’s most vulnerable children so that they become educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible members of their communities. CV serves approximately 15,000 youth and families throughout the New York metropolitan area each year, in both short-term residential and community-based programs, with a focus on keeping children safe and, whenever possible, in their community with family.
