Dubai — Mayer Brown announced today that Anne Wicks joined the firm as a partner in its Global Energy group in Dubai, where she will focus on project development, corporate and finance transactions in the Middle East involving upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), power (including renewables), water and other infrastructure areas including PPPs. Anne joins from White & Case, where she was the managing partner of its Doha office.

“Anne is an experienced energy and infrastructure lawyer with valued knowledge of the global energy markets,” said Alex Chequer, leader of the Firm’s Global Energy Group. “There are significant growth opportunities in the energy, projects and infrastructure sectors in the region, with many international companies looking to heavily invest in the Middle East, as well as regional companies and sovereign wealth funds looking to diversify their assets and expand their geographical footprint. Having Anne on the ground means we can better support both regional and global clients with their strategies.”

Anne's focused experience in the Middle East offers companies, host governments, project developers and sponsors a premium, regionally-focused advisory service on corporate mandates and project development and financing transactions, within the oil and gas, petrochemical, power, and infrastructure industries.

Tom Thraya, Chair of Mayer Brown’s Middle East practice and Managing Partner of its Dubai office said: “The conventional energy sector in the Middle East remains very strong and, at the same time, we are seeing energy players diversifying and preparing for the energy transition. Anne is a great asset to our regional offering, where we see an increased focus on the downstream sector and an uptick in activity around sustainable energies, ESG and compliance and regulatory matters, as well as a focus on capital markets. Her relationship with key entities in the MENA region will help strengthen our foothold in the global energy market, allowing us to tap into existing and new opportunities in the infrastructure and energy sectors.”

In May 2023, Mayer Brown’s Global Energy Group hired partner Richard Nelson into its Global Energy group, bringing significant experience in LNG, upstream oil and gas, energy M&A and energy projects and disputes to the team.
