EU carbon border adjustment mechanism CBAM

Article 1 of the CBAM Regulation stipulates that its objective is to address greenhouse gas emissions embedded in covered goods upon their import into the EU. It does so by imposing an additional cost on imports of certain goods, with the aim of preventing the risk of carbon leakage and reducing global carbon emissions in line with the Paris Agreement (adopted under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change).
