Clients turn to Marco Portillo Diaz for advice on energy-related matters and cases in the different subsectors of the energy industry, including the entire production chain of the oil & gas and power industries. Marco actively participates in project finance, M&A transactions, and international arbitration cases.

With regard to transactional matters in the power sector, Marco has an in-depth knowledge of all stages of conventional and renewable projects and representation of several clients in Wholesale Electricity Markets, clean energy certificates purchases, power auctions and negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs).  As for oil & gas, he represents clients in upstream, transportation and storage, handling and general processing of hydrocarbons and LNG projects.

Marco assists clients in commercial disputes with state-owned entities and commercial and investor-state arbitrations and focuses on disputes regarding engineering and construction and energy in Latin America.

Marco has represented a diverse portfolio of clients within the energy industry, such as developers, EPC contractors, service providers, operators, off-takers, financial institutions and lenders. He also represents clients in different industries on compliance, anti-corruption and ESG matters.

With regard to compliance, Marco advises clients regarding risk assessments, implementation of compliance programs, anticorruption due diligence, contractual clauses for anti-corruption issues, data privacy, trainings, best corporate governance practices, as well as investigations and crisis management. As for ESG, he assists clients in incorporating ESG-driven policies and standards to their business strategies and day-to-day activities by implementing ESG programs, actions, goals and properly measuring and disclosing their effectiveness and with respect to best practices for diversity and inclusion, corporate governance, human rights, climate change and culturally appropriate community impact.
