Grace Shie, a partner in Mayer Brown's Washington DC office, leads the firm’s Global Mobility & Migration practice within the Employment & Benefits group. She advises multinational companies on employee mobility and management of the work corps across the globe, including in major financial centers and emerging markets. Grace's background includes five years in Hong Kong where she led a top-ranked immigration practice covering Greater China and managed matters for clients in the Asia-Pacific region. Grace, who is fluent in Mandarin, continues to maintain a practice focus on inbound expatriate movement into China and Hong Kong. In addition, she has a longstanding command of US immigration across the commercial nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories and manages global immigration matters across all worldwide regions.

Grace provides immigration compliance advice to public and private companies operating in regulated industries and across a variety of industry sectors, including financial services and banking, technology and communications, security and defense, manufacturing, and retail. She advises clients on the use of available work permit and visa categories to meet hiring and training needs for a global workforce. She counsels employers on the intersection of immigration, employment, and tax considerations when planning cross-border staffing and engaging in new market entry. Grace also advises private banking clients on global investment visa options to acquire permanent residency and foreign citizenship.

In 2023, Grace was recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal for their Women Worth Watching in Leadership selection and by Corporate Counsel as a DEI Champion. In 2017, Grace was selected by Law360 as a "Rising Star" (Top 40 Under 40) in the Immigration practice area—one of three lawyers to receive that recognition. Grace was also recognized with a highly prized “Up and Coming” ranking from Chambers USA for Immigration (2020 and 2021). She has been named to the “Top Lawyer” list for Immigration by Washingtonian magazine (2017-2020), the list of 40 “Up-and-Comers” for “The Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Attorneys” by Human Resource Executive (2019), a “Next Generation Lawyer” by Legal 500 (2018-2023), and recognized by Who’s Who Legal for Corporate Immigration (2019-2023) and The Best Lawyers in America for Immigration Law (2020-2023). Grace is a co-editor of The Mobile Workforce, the firm's blog to provide employers with a direct line of sight into immigration policy-making and practices across the globe. She also serves as chair of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Committee and co-chair of the firm's DC Women's Forum.

Coordinating expatriate assignments for global security company placing employees in multiple jurisdictions across EMEA, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific.
Representing clients across different industries during government investigations of suspected breach of the Immigration Ordinance in Hong Kong.
Advising on succession issues in the M&A context, including the multi-jurisdictional impact to visa holders arising from global reorganizations and acquisitions.

Acting for global consulting company in developing enterprise-wide business traveler guidance to comply with business visitor regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Advising private technology company on new market entry requirements and related immigration and corporate establishment requirements to place engineers in the United States and across Europe.
Advising multiple US employers on recruitment and compliance protocols to meet the requirements of PERM, the US labor certification process required for employment-based permanent residency.
