The Ports & Maritime team has compiled the sector’s main news for the week of August 19–26 to keep you informed.

BNDES has begun the process to select parties interested in conducting studies of the Tocantins and Tapajós rivers. This selection process is the next step in structuring the concession projects of the waterways per the Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) signed between ANTAQ and the bank.

The review process will take place by means of a Request for Information (RFI). Interested parties must register by filling the form on the BNDES website  by 11:59 pm on August 30.

Transpetro’s president  said that the company plans to launch a new tender related to the company's fleet renewal and expansion program (TP25) by December 20. He also pointed out that Transpetro intends to launch TP25 tender protocols every six months.

On August 21, ANTAQ carried out the auction for the lease of five port areas in the states of Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul.

On August 22, ANTAQ’s Board of Directors approved the analysis of the Paranaguá Port access channel concession project during the public consultation and hearing period. The analysis will be forwarded to the MPor and then to the TCU.

This is the first proposal for the concession of a port access channel in the country and provides that the contractual term foreseen is 25 years, with the possibility of an extension up to 70 years.

On August 22, BNDES and Finep launched a public call for the selection of business plans to develop and implement biorefineries. The business will be provided BRL 6 billion in resources for the projects.

Brazilian companies that produce fuels or carry out research, technological development, and innovation activities with the aim of developing the technologies set out in the tender protocol, as well as companies that market the end products resulting from these technologies, can participate, either alone or in consortium.

On August 26, Brazilian federal government issued incentive measures for the shipping industry and the O&G sector. One is a Provisional Measure that amends law 14,871 and provides for accelerated depreciation for tankers, with the aim of increasing investment, productivity, and the competitiveness of the shipping industry segment in the country. The initiative is expected to enable the construction of more than 15 medium-size tankers in Brazilian shipyards in the short term.
