London — Mayer Brown announced that it has further expanded its restructuring and special situation capabilities with the hire of Barry Cosgrave as a partner in London. Barry joins Mayer Brown from K&L Gates, where he was a partner and the EMEA practice coordinator for the restructuring and insolvency group.
"Following the recent arrival of Trevor Borthwick, we are excited to add another experienced lawyer with a great mix of both finance and restructuring skills to the team in London," said Michael Fiddy, a partner and co-head of the global Restructuring practice at Mayer Brown. "We are active at every stage of the restructuring life cycle and have created a team that can deliver a first-class service to all our clients, whether they are financial institutions, funds or companies. Barry is an impressive lawyer with a wealth of skills across a variety of financial products, distressed debt and special situations, which will be of great value to our clients."
Barry has a broad practice that includes distressed debt, restructuring and special situations, where he acts for private equity funds, distressed companies, investors and financial sponsors. The other significant area of his practice is debt capital markets and structured finance, including Islamic finance. He represents clients in Europe, the US, Africa, the Middle East and those in emerging markets. Barry also represents international banks, hedge funds, asset managers and insurance companies on banking, funds, securities and regulatory matters in the Middle East. Although based in London, Barry will also spend time in the firm's Dubai office.
"Barry's arrival aligns our firmwide objective to add further depth to our services in areas where we are global leaders and demonstrates our ongoing investment commitment to our financial services offering," said Dominic Griffiths, a partner and co-head of the global Banking & Finance practice at Mayer Brown.
"Despite the obvious challenges of the current market, we continue to focus on growth in key areas of our business in London and this year welcomed Trevor Borthwick, Simon Price, Kirsti Massie and Meredith Campanale to Mayer Brown," added Sally Davies, London managing partner at Mayer Brown. "Barry is a very highly regarded lawyer and another great fit for the firm."
