Tauil & Chequer Advogados advises Banco Santander, BNDES and Itaú BBA on Ventos de Santa Tereza's project finance aimed at decarbonizing Microsoft's global energy matrix

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown advised Banco Santander, BNDES and Itaú BBA on the project finance of Ventos de Santa Tereza 07 Energias Sustentáveis S.A., a special purpose company of AES Brasil, through the issuance of incentivized debentures in the total amount of R$ 900 million.
The funds raised through the operation will be used to reimburse expenses and investments related to the construction of wind farms in the Cajuína complex, in Rio Grande do Norte, with a total capacity of 154 MW. The energy generated by the projects will be sold to Microsoft, with the aim of decarbonizing its global energy matrix.
In addition to the significant size of the operation, the financing included a sophisticated guarantee structure on most of the project’s assets.
Counsel Anna Gouvea and partner Eduardo Lima led the transaction with the support of associates Beatriz Lavigne, Marcella Castellano and Paulo Hirata, all from the Banking and Finance practice.
