Aiysha Hussain advises multinational companies on matters involving national security and international trade, with a focus on export controls, the information and communications technology and services (ICTS) program, and economic sanctions. She regularly guides clients across a range of industries through complex regulatory frameworks administered by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and the State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). Aiysha also has significant experience leading internal investigations into potential violations of export control laws and US sanctions.
Aiysha brings more than 15 years of combined government and private sector experience to her practice. She previously served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Export Administration, where she shaped regulatory priorities, advised on strategic initiatives involving China and Russia, and led the development of export controls on artificial intelligence technologies. Before that, she was Senior Counsel in the Office of the Chief Counsel for Industry and Security, focusing on enforcement and investigations. Aiysha also clerked at both the U.S. District Court for the U.S. Virgin Islands and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and practiced at a Washington, DC law firm, handling matters related to export controls, sanctions, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and white-collar investigations.
