Mayer Brown selects Neela Paykel as second Technology General Counsel in Residence candidate

Mayer Brown is pleased to announce its selection of Neela Paykel as its second participant in the firm’s Technology General Counsel in Residence (TGCR) program. Launched earlier this year, TGCR is modeled after entrepreneur in residence positions traditionally found at venture capital firms.

“Neela has the background and real-world, practical experience that are ideal for our TGCR program,” said Rajesh De, a member of Mayer Brown’s global Management Committee. “Lawyers at every level will get the opportunity to learn from Neela who has held key leadership roles at various tech-forward companies—from startups to global brands.”

A corporate executive with 20 years of in-house leadership experience, Neela has led legal and compliance programs in MedTech and autonomous vehicle companies. In her most recent in-house role, she served as general counsel, chief compliance officer and corporate secretary at Hyperfine, the inventor of the world’s first portable MRI system. She also served as deputy general counsel at Waymo.

“We had great success with Beth Stevens, our first TGCR so we are confident Neela will also offer our lawyers exceptional insights about the inner workings of technology companies,” said Nina Flax, a partner in Mayer Brown’s Northern California Corporate & Securities practice who designed the TGCR program. “Our hope is to continue offering transition roles for technology GCs who are looking for unique opportunities to share their knowledge and experience.”
