Mayer Brown LLP elevated a deputy director of the National Economic Council under former President Donald Trump to its top leadership post in Washington, D.C., the firm announced Wednesday.

Andrew Olmem, who rejoined Mayer Brown four years ago and is co-leader of the law firm's financial services, regulatory and enforcement practice, was tapped as the top attorney for its office in the nation's capital. He previously worked as an associate for the firm from 2001 to 2004, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Olmem took the reins as managing partner June 1, the firm said. He succeeded Liz Espín Stern, who had been the firm's D.C. managing partner since 2021. Espín Stern has served in several senior leadership roles with Mayer Brown, including member of its partnership board, and founded its global mobility and migration practice, the firm said.
