Mayer Brown has officially launched its NextGen initiative in New York, further extending the firm’s innovative platform that fosters opportunities for emerging leaders to network, build connections, and strengthen relationships with clients and peers. This initiative, which has already achieved significant success across the globe, underscores Mayer Brown's dedication to cultivating the next generation of leaders in the legal industry.

First launched in London in 2018, NextGen is an empowerment platform inspired by the firm’s associates that connects junior lawyers with peers across a variety of sectors through a series of events and workshops. These include professional training, social gatherings, and speaking engagements. The platform provides a unique space for rising lawyers to deepen their understanding of clients, cross-sell legal capabilities, and engage with evolving technologies and global business trends, all within a supportive and less pressured environment.

“The success of NextGen in London has been remarkable. We have seen our junior lawyers grow in confidence and capability, forming strong networks that have been beneficial both personally and professionally,” said partner Sally Davies, who helped launch the initiative in London and is part of the management committee. “Seeing the initiative expand globally and now to New York is incredibly rewarding. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”

“Mayer Brown is committed to investing in the next generation,” added partner James Morris, who was an associate at the time and came up with the idea. “As someone who has grown from associate to partner while championing this initiative, I have seen first-hand the talent and innovation that emerge when we offer a platform for future leaders to develop global professional relationships and build a dynamic community. NextGen is breaking traditional hierarchies, and its expansion highlights Mayer Brown’s ongoing commitment to supporting future talent, fostering a more inclusive and innovative culture, and promoting long-term sustainability and growth.”

“Launching NextGen in New York is an exciting milestone for us,” said Sydni Eibschutz, the associate helping to spearhead the initiative in New York. “We are eager to build on the success of our global counterparts and create a vibrant community where rising lawyers can thrive, innovate, and lead. This initiative is about empowering the next generation to shape the future of the legal industry.”

The NextGen initiative has already generated impressive success stories across the firm’s international offices. For instance, associates who participated in previous NextGen events have reported strengthened client relationships, enhanced professional skills, and successful career advancements. In New York, the initiative will kick off with a series of exciting events, including a leadership workshop on emerging legal technologies, a networking gala featuring prominent industry speakers, and a series of interactive panels focused on cross-sector collaboration.

The NextGen initiative has already launched in Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Washington DC, Chicago, and now New York. Further office rollouts are expected in the near future, continuing to build a global network of innovative and forward-thinking legal professionals.
