Mayer Brown advises Roof and its founders on the fundraising of 20 million euros from Mata Capital IM
Paris – Mayer Brown advised Roof, an operator of new-generation student residences, and its founders, as part of its €20 million equity fundraising with Mata Capital IM, which becomes its majority shareholder, alongside Roof's founders.
Founded in 2022, Roof uses a hybrid OpCo/PropCo model, combining rigorous property expertise with an innovative service approach. The concept is based on the complete transformation of ideally located buildings - in city centres, close to university centres - into residences on a human scale. Each property, designed to accommodate between 14 and 100 rooms, promotes community living with generous shared spaces (such as coworking areas, a gym, a communal kitchen, a screening room, etc.) and day-to-day support designed specifically for students.
This strategic partnership combines Roof's operational expertise and product vision with Mata Capital IM's recognised ability to structure, finance and deploy impact real estate strategies. Alongside them, Momento Capital, a specialist in managed residential property in Europe, provides strategic support for sourcing, acquiring and operating assets. Together, this trio is building a robust platform capable of identifying the best opportunities, structuring acquisitions and overseeing operational management to the highest standards.
