Lai Yan

She represents clients in high-stakes arbitrations in the world’s leading arbitral seats and is well-versed in the procedures of major arbitral institutions. Her expertise also extends to acting for both investors and states in investment treaty arbitrations.

Before joining Mayer Brown, Lai Yan served as a Justices’ Law Clerk with the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal, where she assisted with cases involving the setting-aside and enforcement of arbitral awards. With her comprehensive experience in international arbitration and dispute resolution, she provides clients with strategic guidance and helps them achieve commercially viable solutions to their disputes.

• Represented a South Asian state in an investment treaty arbitration relating to the construction and operation of a gas power plant. 
• Advised on ICC arbitration proceedings relating to a concession agreement for the exploration of gas in Pakistan. 
• Advised a Middle Eastern state oil company on contractual claims arising out of a price review mechanism in an LNG supply agreement.
• Advised a major Southeast Asian shipping company on claims relating to the design and construction of an FPSO.
